Simulations of poverty are effective pedagogy that expose social work students and practitioners to issues of poverty. Poverty simulations provide a firsthand experience of poverty that sensitizes participants to deprivation, stress, and disempowerment. Social work students volunteered for this research to evaluate the effectiveness of the Community Action Poverty Simulation.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the ethical duties and responsibilities of social workers to end poverty
Describe outcomes from poverty simulations
Discuss implications of poverty simulations on social work education and practice and social policy
