In this interactive workshop, we will apply a lens of integrating Indigenous knowledge, particularly related to Narrative Techniques as a way of challenging colonialism in higher education with a focus on how we can challenge the White cultural capital and racialized space often found in traditional mentoring models.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify and define patterns of the cloning model and the rising star phenomenon as well as strategies to challenge these oppressive perspectives and to increase safe spaces within the academy.
  2. Participants will learn strategies of Narrative mentoring techniques and reflect on personal and professional values as a connection point whether in the role of mentor or mentee.
  3. Participants will be able to engage collaboratively to center value-based mentoring in their respective programs.
