"Battlegrounds for Access": Community-Engaged Policy Research to Advance Political Justice

We present a nine-county landscape analysis of policy and implementation challenges to voting rights in a state rife with racist and discriminatory barriers to political justice. Findings provide a roadmap for state and local policy change efforts to dismantle political justice barriers, yielding data-grounded recommendations to expand voting rights.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop knowledge about policy barriers to voting rights in urban, suburban and rural contexts
  2. Discuss ways barriers to voting rights can emerge both through explicit policy language and in local implementation
  3. Identify specific data-based recommendations that advocates can take to seek expand access to voting rights
