A Breath of Fresh Air: Student Reflections on Plants in the Classroom

This research explored the impact of plants in a social work classroom. Based on a convenience sample of 76 students attending class in a room appointed with several plants, students overwhelmingly reported positive impacts on their learning process/environment, personal well-being, and noted how the plants shifted “norms” in educational settings.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to describe prior research exploring the impact of nature/plants in classrooms.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to describe findings related to the current research exploring the impact of plants in a social work classroom.
  3. Upon completion, participants will be able to assess the impact of the current research on the student learning environment and well-being.
