Factors Associated With Mental Health Treatment Among Black and Latino/a Respondents in the United States

This study explored factors influencing mental health treatment need among Black and Latino/a respondents using data from the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Results from logistic regression revealed that Black and Latino/a participants had lower odds reporting the need for mental health treatment compared to White participants.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the potential contributing factors to the perceived need for mental health treatment among Black and Latino/a individuals.
  2. Recognize the associations between symptoms of psychological distress, problem severity, and the perceived need for mental health treatment.
  3. Highlight the importance of addressing and investigating racial/ethnic disparities in perceived treatment need to promote equitable access to mental healthcare.
