This study leverages national emergency department data to identify the prevalence of substance use disorders (SUD) among formerly trafficked patients. Over 40% of visits documented any SUD, with polysubstance use documented in nearly 20% of visits. Findings may inform the development of hospital-based programs to address SUD among trafficking survivors.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to describe the prevalence of specific substance use disorders (SUD) among human trafficking victims presenting to emergency departments.
Attendees will be able to distinguish variation in SUD by demographic characteristics of human trafficking victims.
Attendees will be able to identify differential emergency department outcomes for human trafficking victims by SUD status.
