A Scoping Review of Family Interventions for Immigrant/Refugee Children, Exploring Intergenerational Trauma

This scoping review synthesizes research evidence regarding the outcomes of family-based trauma interventions for immigrant/refugee children and caregivers, specifically focusing on intergenerational trauma. This paper aims to build knowledge about evidence-based family practices for refugees and immigrants that are culturally competent and inform effective approaches for social work education.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To gain knowledge on outcomes of various family-based trauma interventions for refugee/immigrant children and families, focusing on intergenerational trauma.
  2. To advocate for increased research efforts aimed at developing and testing culturally relevant intergenerational family-based intervention for refugee/immigrant populations.
  3. To integrate a systematic and family-centered approach into social work education for working with immigrant and refugee families.
