Social Work Leadership in Higher Education and Steps Towards Decolonization and Communal Partnership

Presenters will discuss important aspects of social work leadership, including the value of relationships and communal collaboration. Leaders in social work education who are committed to anti-oppressive, anti-racist, decolonizing ideologies, must apply Indigenous values and perspectives on leadership, centering relationships and connection, transforming from hierarchical to circular.

Learning Objectives:

  1. • Participants will be able to define leadership in the social work field, specifically focusing on the importance of relational and communal collaboration and empowerment.
  2. • Participants will be able to apply a collectivist cultural perspective to the concept of leadership in social work higher education settings.
  3. • Participants will be able to discuss steps towards decolonizing leadership in social work higher education settings.
