Principal Chief
Wyandot Nation of Kansas
Judith Manthe grew up near Wyandotte County, close to Piper, Kansas. There, she was involved in various community, school, and church groups and led several projects. In 2019, Judith was elected Principal Chief of Wyandot Nation of Kansas. Her Grandmother Edith Zane Yunghans, always told her many stories of her heritage and said to her: “Never forget your 5th Great Grandfather is Chief Tarhe, a Great Wyandot Chief!” As Principal Chief, she has shared Wyandot history with many groups and school-age children.
She loves attending the Green Corn Ceremony in Oklahoma and the Wyandotte Gathering, where she continues to learn about Wyandot history and native crafts. Being with her Wyandot family fills her heart with Joy. As a distant relative of the Wyandot Conley Sisters, she is honored to share their story through a Traveling Art Exhibit, called “Trespassers Beware! Fort Conley and Wyandot Women Warriors".
