Dr. Mustapha Alhassan is the Director of the BSW program and Associate Professor at the Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work. Dr. Alhassan’s research and scholarly work focuses on educational development in Ghana, health disparities as it impact minorities, human trafficking and data science in social work. Dr. Alhassan’s professional experiences in life have shaped his view on societal issues and fuel his commitment as an invested researcher. Dr. Alhassan served as a Co-PI of a prostate cancer educational seminar grant which was awarded by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2016. Dr. Alhassan is a Faculty Affiliate Member for the Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development (CCRTD) at Clark Atlanta University and the African Programming and Research Initiative to End Slavery (APRIES) at UGA. Dr. Alhassan’s most recent scholarly work is in the emerging field of Data science in Social Work practice. Dr. Alhassan also served as a Co-PI of a Data Science grant from Google. The grant is a data science training and mentoring program that was implemented in the Summer of 2022. Dr. Alhassan mentored two BSW seniors under the Data Science Google grant. Dr. Alhassan received the Vulcan Excellence in Teaching Award from Clark Atlanta University in 2022. Dr. Alhassan has mentored more than twenty (20) BSW students who presented their research projects at the annual CAU Research symposium since 2016.
