MSW Candidate
California State University, Stanislaus, United States
Rachel Riojas is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work degree at California State University, Stanislaus, with a focus on mental and behavioral health. With a passion for addressing social work challenges on an international scale, Rachel has embarked on two immersive trips to Ghana, initially as a study abroad participant and later as a Graduate Student Assistant. These experiences have deepened her understanding of the unique struggles faced by mothers in the region, leading her to concentrate her research efforts on maternal mental health.
Preparations are underway for Rachel's third journey to Ghana, where she will undertake her culminating project, The Mindful Motherhood Initiative. By addressing the mental health needs of mothers within these communities, the Mindful Motherhood Initiative can rewrite narratives, create opportunities, and empower mothers to break free from the chains of adversity. Rachel's commitment to leveraging her research expertise and international experiences underscores her dedication to enhancing the well-being of mothers, children, and families both locally and globally.
Rachel's exemplary academic achievements, including receiving the Student Engagement in Research and Creative Activities (SERSCA) grant and accepting the Partners in Advancing International Education (PIE) – Student Group award, highlight her potential as a transformative figure in the field of social work. Her tireless efforts to address the unique needs of mothers and families, foster positive change within communities, and advance understanding of maternal mental health demonstrate her readiness to make a meaningful impact in the field.
