Karina is a committed advocate who strives to advance social justice at a global level. She recently embarked in a Interprofessional Collaborative to address issues that are impacting the health, education, employment opportunities and life trajectories of young people in Ghana. Karina’s passion in macro-social work was inspired after studying aboard in Ghana during the summer of 2023 and has committed to continuing the work that was started. Her experience in traveling abroad and interacting with individuals from another culture has provided her with a better understanding of the need and impact on the communities. Karina is strongly passionate and motivated about her work and challenged herself to proudly speak about it to the public. Karina participated in her school’s Annual Grad Slam Research Competition and presented her culminating graduate project, Teen Pregnancy in Ghana: Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health Education and was the 2nd runner up which advanced her to the statewide three-minute thesis competition. Karina is also a proud recipient of a few Study Aboard Scholarships and the SERSCA travel grant. For the past eight years Karina has dedicated to providing crisis intervention, support services and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Working in this field has allowed her to empower and educate individuals and families with compassion and respect. Karina enjoys working at a micro-level, and although her journey in macro-social work is just starting, she hopes to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of people locally and across the world.
