Dr. Tabag earned her Ph.D. and Master of Social Work at Adelphi University’s Graduate School of Social Work, where she is also an adjunct professor. Dr. Tabag’s research examined experienced gendered racial microaggressions and psychological distress among Filipina/x/o American women, reinforcing her positionality as a second-generation Filipina/x/o American woman from the Currimao Province of Ilocos Norte. Dr. Tabag holds certifications as a Supervisor in Field Instruction (SIFI) and as a School Social Worker. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R) for 27 years, Dr. Tabag’s private practice centers on racially diverse adolescents, families, and emerging adults. She also provides supervision and consultation to social workers working towards their credentials and continuing education workshops for academic and social work organizations. Dr. Tabag’s community service extends to leadership positions with the National Association of Social Work, New York State Division (NASW-NYS), and the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA). Since 2022, Dr. Tabag has been the Director of the NASW-NYS Nassau Division and since 2018, serves on their Diversity Committee. Dr. Tabag’s published chapters include Posttraumatic growth among Filipina/x/o Americans (The Routledge Handbook on Posttraumatic Growth) and Filipina/x/o Americans and social work (The SAGE Encyclopedia of Filipina/x/o American Studies). She has also published in academic journals, The New York Times, and The FilAm: A magazine for Filipino Americans in NY. Dr. Tabag’s public speaking presentations center on social work, diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging (DEIB), microaggressions, systemic racism, and the promotion of social justice among Asian and other racialized, marginalized, and oppressed communities.
