Dr. Tami Gouveia (DrPH, MPH, MSW) directs the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health at Boston University School of Social Work. She has extensive experience as a leader in social work, public health, policymaking, and change management. She was elected to two terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where she passed legislation to combat the opioid crisis, defend reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ rights, advance housing and climate justice, reform education funding and the criminal legal system, and invest in programs to prevent and treat childhood trauma. She was a co-sponsor of the Indigenous People’s Agenda, a multi-pronged partnership effort to codify Indigenous rights into law. Throughout her 25-year public health social work career, Dr. Gouveia has held numerous governmental, non-profit, and philanthropic leadership positions to foster equitable health and well-being. Believing in the power of people working together for our shared humanity, Dr. Gouveia founded several organizations, including the Lowell Roundtable on Substance Abuse Prevention and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Women’s March.
