Dr. Sara Schwartz is Associate Professor of Teaching in the University of Southern California Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. She holds an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, a PhD from Portland State University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California Berkeley School of Social Welfare. Dr. Schwartz earned an MA from the USC Visual Anthropology program in 2024, with a thesis focused on the trauma embodied in visual archives paralleling the AIDS Memorial Quilt. In 2022, Dr. Schwartz launched a Visual Social Work Certificate at USC that introduces students to alternative visual strategies for understanding complex social justice issues. Her scholarship centers on expanding the visual social work methodology for social work education and practice; and building best practices for individuals aging with bleeding disorders and/or HIV.
