Rita Stageman is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Social Work Department at Northern Arizona University. She also serves as the director of NAU's Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Project. Rita has been in the field of child welfare for nearly fifteen years - in frontline practice, supervision, teaching, and research. Rita's research focuses on the influence of public policies on health outcomes for women, children, and families, with a specific focus on policies governing pregnant individuals. Her work emphasizes the need to apply a public health approach to address family risk factors rather than promoting policies targeting individuals’ behaviors. Rita seeks to evaluate the outcomes of public policy with regard for the wellbeing of the entire family system and consideration for disproportionate impacts on marginalized groups.
