Steven Sturman is an Instructional Designer for the University at Buffalo, School of Social Work. He has been working with integrating technology into education for over twenty-five years. He specializes in using virtual reality, standardized patient simulations, and synchronous technologies to allow students to learn intervention strategies and develop practice skills in online and hybrid courses. In this role Steven helped develop the Trauma Informed Spaces app, which is an immersive VR app that allows students to learn how trauma-informed principles can be integrated into the physical setting of health service agencies. Steven is a founding member and current chair of the inSocialWork podcast.
Mr. Sturman is also the project manager for the SUNY HyFlex Course Development and Delivery project. In this role Steven provides professional development opportunities for faculty and instructional designers from campuses across the SUNY system. Through online workshops and regular community of practice sessions, participants learn about the best practices for designing and offering HyFlex courses and receive guidance on how to teach across multiple modalities.
