Janelle K. Bryan is a Clinical Assistant Professor for Sacred Heart University’s School of Social Work. In this role, she teaches courses in the MSW and PhD programs, including Human Diversity and Social Justice, core research courses and History and Theoretical foundations of Social Work. Dr. Bryan has over a decade of experience in community health center administration, including program development and assessment, grants management and leadership development. She has also engaged in research and scholarship at the intersection of health inequites, social justice and anti-oppression practice, gender-based violence and political social work. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies from Wesleyan University and both her Masters and Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. Her dissertation assessed Barbadian health professionals’ attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and screening behaviors regarding intimate partner violence.
