Isaac M. Akapnitis, LMSW is a Doctoral Candidate in Social Work at Arizona State University, and a Research Assistant with the Social Transformation Lab. They hold a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Florida, and a Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from the University of Texas at Austin. Their research interests include community-driven, non-coercive/carceral approaches for mental health and suicide prevention for trans/nonbinary youth and young adults. Theiir mixed methods dissertation study focuses on how trans/nonbinary young adults define and experience care, safety, and trans joy in the context of their mental health.
