Sungsim Lee is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work. She earned her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Won Buddhist Studies from the Won Institute of Graduate Studies. Her research interests include spirituality, religion, and health for older adults’ well-being. Sungsim has a passion for spiritually based social work education and practice for enhancing human potential and social justice. She is deeply interested in designing and implementing spiritually based interventions (i.e., mindfulness, gratitude) for holistic care and spiritual growth. She has worked for Won Buddhist temples in Miami, Philadelphia, and Chicago and facilitated meditation retreats and Dharma services as a Won Buddhist minister. Previously, she worked with students with developmental disabilities for public special education schools in South Korea.
