Parthenia Luke is a social work scholar and scientist who studies displacement pressure – a form of chronic stress induced by gradual changes in a physical or social environment over time that forces individual to consider leaving that environment. She presently studies this phenomenon’s effect on physical and mental health outcomes in the contexts of climate change as well as gentrification. By examining the displacement pressures faced by individuals and communities in changing physical and social environments, Parthenia aims to highlight the resilience of those affected and advocate for policies that support long-term well-being.
Parthenia's educational journey includes a bachelor’s in psychology from Furman University, a MSW, and a PhD in Social Work from the University of South Carolina, providing a solid foundation for her impactful research and advocacy. With a dynamic blend of academic rigor and practical insights, Parthenia engages audiences by unraveling the complex impacts of displacement pressure on health and well-being, inspiring action toward deeper understanding and increased support for social justice.
