Dr. Daniel Cavanaugh (he/him/his) is the BSW Director and an Associate Clinical Professor at Washington State University’s Tri-Cities campus in the College of Nursing. Dr. Cavanaugh is a social work educator who focuses on the use of experiential adventure interventions in practice for youth and families. His research is related to clinical practice, prevention, public health, adventure therapy outcomes, LGBTQ+ equity in the academy, and mental health knowledge. He is a partner in the Outdoor Therapy Centre for Research and Practice, an international research collaboration. He is also the co-host of The Adventure Therapy Collective Podcast.
Dr. Cavanaugh completed his undergraduate education in Psychology at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan and at Portland State University in Oregon. Daniel later completed his MSW and PhD at The Michigan State University School of Social work. Daniel’s clinical practice experience has included work with community mental health, school-based social work, and adventure therapy practice in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest.
