Faculty/Research Manager
Washington University in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO, United States
My name is Manasseh Begay. I am a husband and a father of two. I am ½ White Mountain Apache and ½ Navajo. I have been a Wildland firefighter, law enforcement officer, Clinical and Substance Abuse counselor, teacher and instructor. I currently am faculty in the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, and research manager for the Kathryn M. Buder Center for Native American Studies. Through these experiences and other life experiences I have tried to hold myself with ideals which live up the responsibilities of these positions. While I am not perfect, I do and have worked hard to provide excellence in these positions which I have held and currently hold.
The areas of importance which continue to guide my current and future work (outside of my family sphere) are to engage regularly with Native American communities, train culturally, ethically, and competent social workers, provide training to law enforcement agencies regarding trauma informed policing, provide quality counseling, and to support the needs of people within my community. These areas guide my professional career and as I continue to learn and grow I hope my contributions can continue to support these areas and other areas where I am guided. My journey continues as I grow in wisdom and knowledge.
