Dr. Arika Wiggins is an assistant professor at Southeast Missouri State University. She teaches in the Department of Criminal Justice, Social Work, and Sociology. Prior to joining the CJSWS department at Southeast, Dr. Wiggins practiced social work for 11 years, starting as a Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW), and with most of her practice experience as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). Dr. Wiggins worked with children, youth, and families in the child protective services domain, older adults and adults with disabilities in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and hospice care. Dr. Wiggins’ research interests are qualitative methods focusing on the social determinants of health and mental health, health disparities, and service provision for underserved populations.
