PhD Candidate
University of Alabama
Tuscaloosa, AL, United States
Haelim Jeong is a licensed social worker in the state of Alabama and a PhD Candidate at The University of Alabama’s School of Social Work. Haelim worked as a therapist at a residential facility for children and adolescents, who were often victims of childhood trauma. Currently, she provides therapy services to college students at the University of Alabama’s counseling center.
As a PhD candidate, Haelim’s research is broadly on suicide prevention and help-seeking behavior. Currently, her dissertation titled, “Live or die? Exploring the suicidal ambivalence among suicide attempt survivors: A qualitative study” examines a phenomenon called suicidal ambivalence, which is when an individual has the desire to live and die at the same time.
After her PhD, Haelim will pursue a career to continue her suicide prevention research and social work practice with children and adolescents. Haelim hopes to bridge the existing gap between social work practice and research. Her goal is to incorporate her training as both a practitioner and a researcher to train future social workers, and social work scholars to mend this gap.
