Evelyn Coker is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience providing direct services and administering mental health, juvenile justice, and social services programs. Evelyn has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, a Master’s in Social Work, and a Master’s in Business Administration. She is an advanced Ph.D. student at the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her primary research interests are Black girls and young women in the carceral system, mental health of adolescent Black girls and young women, program evaluation, and mixed-methods research. Evelyn authored an interactive journal for Black and Brown teen girls called “Get L.I.T.: A Teen Girl’s Journal to Learning Intentional Tools for Positive Personal Development” to teach how to practice mindful self-regulation and journal with intention. Her dissertation research extends this work to create a culturally relevant gender-responsive program for Black girls in detention settings.
