Estrellita Moronta is a licensed clinical social worker, earning her Master’s in Social Work with distinction from Rhode Island College in 2019. She is undertaking advanced academic pursuits as a doctoral student at Simmons University, actively pursuing her Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) with an anticipated graduation in 2024.
With a dedicated focus on the social work profession, Estrellita has acquired extensive experience working with a diverse population across the lifespan, Specializing in severe mental illness, trauma, and substance use disorders. Her versatility is evident through her practice in various treatment settings, including primary care, nonprofit organizations, home-based services, and emergency departments. She adeptly integrates methodologies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and Harm Reduction Therapy.
In addition to her clinical roles, Estrellita has assumed the esteemed position of the first faculty fellow for the Hispanic/Latinx Center of Excellence at Rhode Island College. In this capacity, she engages in professional development, curriculum development, and teaches a full-time course load.
Looking forward, Estrellita envisions leveraging her forthcoming DSW to make significant contributions to research initiatives focused on dismantling barriers in education for the Latinx community. Her ultimate goal is to ascend to the position of a tenured track professor, where she can impart her knowledge, passion, and extensive experience to the next generation of social work professionals.
