Joise Garzon, is an Independent Clinical Social Worker licensed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Her recent experience has been in the post-secondary setting where she worked as the Director of a Student Success office at Rhode Island College. In that role, she was responsible for ensuring that college students had access to case management services to help them overcome the life barriers that impacted their ability to stay enrolled until degree completion. In previous positions as Clinician and Assistant Clinical Director of a residential program as well as Clinician in a private practice, Joise engaged in diverse clinical treatment modalities with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups. In these roles, Joise worked closely with interdisciplinary teams consisting of Department of Children and Families workers, Department of Mental Health workers, school liaisons, parents, program administrators, teachers, and behavioral specialists. Joise's social work experience also includes providing clinical support to clients in the secondary setting, the criminal justice system, and community-based organizations that support clients with substance use and mental health needs. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Master of Social Work program and Rhode Island College and Co-Director of the Latinx/ Hispanic Center of Excellence for Social Work Practice. She obtained her PhD in Education from Rhode Island College/ University of Rhode Island College in 2034. Her dissertation focused on the experiences of Latinx college students who persisted to graduation with a focus on the institutional barriers that fostered and served as barriers to degree completion.
