Dr. Jayashree Nimmagadda, Ph.D., MSW, M.Phil, LICSW is a professor at the School of Social Work, Rhode Island College. She served as Dean of the School of Social Work at Rhode Island College for five years (2018-2023). She was the Chair of the MSW department 2008-2016 and has been a member of the faculty of the MSW program at RIC since 2001. She is the founding member of the RI Collaborative for Interprofessional Education and Practice, which is housed in the SSW.
Jay is invested in increasing equity and access to high quality, culturally appropriate social work services with programs that center the needs of often marginalized populations. She is also committed to improving access to the School of Social Work, especially for students who identify as BIPOC and/or multilingual, understanding their education and participation in the workforce is critical to excellent services. She is the Principal Investigator of the grant and the founding director of the Center of Excellence for Latinx Social Work Practice. In addition, she is the principal or co-principal investigator for six other federal, state and foundation grants.
Dr. Nimmagadda has her Ph.D. from the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Philosophy, Psychiatric Social Work, from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, India, an MSW in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and a BA, Sociology and Psychology, both from Stella Maris College, University of Madras, India.
