Kristie A. Thomas, PhD, MSW is a Professor and PhD Program Director at Simmons University School of Social Work. She served as the MSW Program Director from 2020 to 2023. Dr. Thomas has extensive practice, teaching, and research expertise in the field of anti-violence. Her scholarship focuses on developing community-informed programs for intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors and their children. She applies a Community Based Participatory Approach to her research, has expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methods, and particularly enjoys primary data collection. In addition to a robust portfolio of peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Thomas has authored online trainings and toolkits that are used widely by researchers and practitioners across the country. Dr. Thomas is the recipient of two teaching excellence awards—The Provost Award for Student-Centeredness in Graduate Teaching, and the SAGE/American Evaluation Association Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award—and was recently awarded Fellow status by the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR). She earned her MSW and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, which is in her hometown of Philadelphia.
