Dawn Shafer (she/they), PhD, LCSW-C, is the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland School of Social Work MSW Program in Baltimore, MD. Dawn completed her PhD in Language, Literacy, and Culture at the University of Maryland Baltimore County; she holds an MSW from San Diego State University (2003) and a BA from Penn State (1996). She is a proud first-generation working-class scholar with 12 years of experience as psychotherapist and an additional 12 years as a student affairs practitioner with graduate and professional students. Dawn is co-chair of the Equity and Accessibility Committee and her practice areas include disability justice, belonging and inclusion efforts, and first-generation student success.
