Turquoise Skye Devereaux is a part of the Salish and Blackfeet tribes, and is from the Flathead Indian Reservation in Western Montana. Turquoise earned her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Montana, her Master of Social Work with a focus on Policy, Administration, and Community Practice from Arizona State University, and is currently a doctoral student in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Research Scholar and an ASU Presidential Graduate Research Assistant. Turquoise’s research centers on collectivist collaboration in healing and perseverance, fueling her passion for creating culturally safe spaces that support a collectivist worldview, promote healing, and nurture identity within research, education, and practice.
Throughout her career, she has worked in various capacities as the founder of Indigenous Skye, LLC, roles at ASU Office of American Indian Projects, UM American Indian Student Services, and TRIO-Upward Bound. She advocates for Native American students and also consults on trauma-informed, decolonizing strategies when serving Indigenous communities, with a focus on creating culturally safe spaces on all levels.
Turquoise has been recognized by receiving the UM Diversity Leadership Award, the Indian Support Staff of the Year Award from the Montana Indian Education Association in 2017, American Indian Graduate Center Fellowship, and the NASW Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship. During her time at Arizona State University, Turquoise served as Vice President of the American Indian Social Work Student Association and represented students on committees influencing curriculum and diversity practices.
