Dr. Cheryl Hyde is a professor in the School of Social Work, Temple University Her scholarship focuses on anti-oppressive praxis, community and organizational engagement and transformation, social movements and societal change, and macro practice ethics. Dr. Hyde was Principal Investigator for the completed research project - “Building Capacities/Making Connections: A Multi-Year Study of Human and Social Capital Development through the HIP Career Pathways Initiative,” and coordinated two HRSA-funded behavorial training programs. Currently, she is Evaluation Director for ReCAST Philadelphia, a SAMSHA funded program aimed at curbing gun violence and fostering community engagement and capacity building. Dr. Hyde is co-author, with Dr. Marcia Cohen, of "Empowering Workers and Clients for Organizational Change", has published over 70 articles and book chapters, and presented widely at social work conferences. Her current research focuses on the impact of neoliberalism on the human service sector.
Her teaching interests include organizational, community and policy practice, social work ethics, and societal change. Dr. Hyde received the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award, Temple University (2022) and the Excellence in Teaching Award, College of Public Health (2020). She serves on several editorial boards and is the incoming editor-in-chief for the Journal of Community Practice; is a Society for Social Work Research Fellow, where she co-founded the Community & Neighborhood Research Cluster and chairs the Community Research Interest Group; and is Chair of the Association for Community Organization and Social Action. Dr. Hyde earned her MSW, Certificate in Labor Relations, and PhD (Sociology & Social Work) from the University of Michigan.
