Professor and Dean Emeritus
Bryn Mawr College
Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, United States
Professor and Dean Emeritus of the Graduate School of Social Research and Social Service at Bryn Mawr College, Darlyne Bailey is also the founder and executive director
of the Social Justice Initiative, the organization she envisioned and launched in 2017 when she stepped aside after eight years of the honor of service as Dean at Bryn Mawr. With a professional career that has spanned 30+ years, as a licensed clinical social worker who lives in the world of macro practice, Darlyne began her professional journey starting a community- based mental health organization and then went on to investing several decades in academic leadership. Darlene remains honored to have her many “labors of love” recognized in various ways by awards from organizations of high regard, continues to teach and engage in participatory research, and serve as board chair of several national boards. She’s also thrilled to remain the editor-in-chief of a the now 29 year old journal “Reflections” with other incredible social work colleagues. For the past 11+ years, Darlyne has also:
co- led the Special Commission To Advance Macro Social Work and is thrilled to co- convene their ACARDA (“Advancing Critical Antiracism Dialogues for Action“) Committee with faculty and students from across our country; is humbled to have worked with an incredible team to produce the inaugural “Encyclopedia of Macro Social Work”; and super excited to be, for the second time, partnering with other major macro organizations in producing CSWE’s “Specialized Practice Curricular Guide for Macro Social Work Practice.”
