Dr. Marianne Yoshioka, PhD, LCSW, MBA, currently serves as the dean of the Smith College School for Social Work. Initially trained as a clinical social worker, her research has concentrated on addiction, family therapy, HIV/AIDS, and family violence within Asian communities. Dr. Yoshioka is widely recognized for her efforts in aligning organizations and curricula with principles of anti-racism and anti-oppression. With over 17 years of leadership experience in social work schools and nonprofit boards, she currently co-directs the Leadership Academy of the National Association of Social Work Deans and Directors. In her coaching consultation practice, Dr. Yoshioka utilizes her advanced training in organizational management and development to work with leaders in academic and non-profit settings. As a queer Japanese American woman, she is passionately committed to supporting individuals who have faced marginalization, helping them discover their voice, embrace their power and leadership, and establish balance of work and joy in their lives.
Dr. Yoshioka holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the Isenberg School of Management, and a PhD in Social Work from Florida State University. Additionally, she is a licensed social worker in the state of Massachusetts and a certified yoga instructor.
