Amy Skeen, DSW, LCSW, PEL is a Professor of Practice and Associate Director of MSW Practicum Education at Simmons University School of Social Work. In addition to an extensive background in practicum education, she brings over twenty years of direct practice as a social worker and nonprofit leader that supports her ability to connect theory to practice and cultivate meaningful partnerships with community-based organizations, governmental agencies, and funding sources. Her current scholarship focuses on strengthening practicum education and enhancing the signature pedagogy of social work education. Additional areas of interest include LGBTQ+ populations, first-generation college students, social emotional development, and nonprofit and community-based leadership. Additionally she developed a local training program for undergraduate and graduate-level social work students, participated on a research team to conduct evidence-based program evaluation of a national nonprofit, and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Field Educator, the online scholarly journal dedicated to research and best practices within field education.
