Associate Director for Doctoral Research

Dr. Ellis is the Associate Director of Doctoral Research and Professor at Abilene Christian University. In this role, she is spearheading the development of a premier research center that will serve doctoral faculty and students across multiple schools within the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. Prior academic positions include serving as an inaugural faculty member for the Simmons University DSW program, the Assistant Director of Field Education for California Baptist University's MSW program, and the Founding Director of Field Education for Liberty University’s BSW program. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, she spent several years working at Westat and Child Trends directing federally funded evaluation projects. She has contributed to the research in the areas of adoption recruitment, family preservation, long-term foster care, informal kinship care, and trauma informed practice. She earned an MSW degree from California State University, Long Beach in 2001 and a PhD in social work in 2007 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She currently serves as a mentor for the Leaders in Equitable Evaluation and Diversity (LEEAD) Program, and informally mentors dozens of current and former graduate students. Dr. Ellis recently co-authored a book chapter on child welfare evaluations, which is published in the Culturally Responsive and Equitable Evaluation: Visions and Voices of Emerging Scholars text.
