LGBTQIA+ youth experience significant disparities, particularly in this anti-LGBTQIA+ political climate. Social work education/practice requires a greater focus on enhancing affirmative practice. Many students also report not feeling prepared to practice with LGBTQIA+ communities. This presentation will report findings to enhance affirmative practice with LGBTQIA+ youth during this time.

Learning Objectives:

Explore and adopt current affirmative practice approaches to better support LGBTQIA+ youth amidst the current anti-LGBTQIA+ political climate in the U.S.
Understand effective ways to better support LGBTQIA+ youth in enhancing feelings of safety, inclusion and belonging through intersectional identity exploration, community building, and developing self-advocacy skills.
