Session: Strength and Resilience among Black and Latina Women Caregivers

Exploring Strength and Resilience in Black and Latina Women Caregivers: An Autoethnographic Study

Strength and resilience are often used in contextualizing Black and Latina women’s caregiving experiences. Historically offered as evidence of positive coping, growing research suggests a more nuanced investigation of strength and resilience related to health and well-being. Using autoethnography the authors explore how strength and resilience impacted their caregiving experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the multifaceted dimensions of strength and resilience in the lived experiences of Black and Latina women.
  2. Describe factors influencing the embodiment of strength and resilience among Black and Latina women in caregiving roles and how this impacts their physical and mental health.
  3. Appreciate the empowering and liberatory potential of autoethnography as a methodological approach in exploring the lived experiences of women with intersectional identities.
