Mental health service utilization rates remain low among the general US population and significantly lower among the international migrant population. The international migrant population often faces complex barriers to mental health treatment and engagement. This study examined social workers’ self-perceived practice competencies implemented while working with the international migrant population.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss and address micro, mezzo, and macro level skills mental health social workers perceive as essential for successful engagement with international migrant populations
Explore social workers’ perceptions of barriers and facilitate discussion in the development and implementation of alternatives to help-seeking for mental health services
Identify at least two strategies that can be implemented in social work pedagogy and praxis in providing social workers with evidence-based interventions applicable to the international migrant population
