“Nothing About Us, Without Us”: Oneida Nation Community Engagement to Inform Tribal Research Protections

Participatory research (PR) approaches grounded in Indigenous relationality increases trust and rigor by ensuring research is relevant to the community where research is conducted. A Tribal Research Forum was an effective PR approach to engage tribal community members in research happening in the community and with research protections.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participants will be able to define participatory research approaches used to strengthen collaborative efforts between researchers and tribal communities
  2. Upon completion, the participants will be able to explain how participatory approaches grounded in Indigenous relationality and accountability impacts trust and successful community engagement as a form of social justice.
  3. Upon completion, the participants will be able to describe how a Tribal Research Forum is an effective PR approach to engaging and collaborating with community members.
