Community-Led Solutions Require More Macro Social Work: A Multi-Year Multi-Method Study

Community-led solutions, anti-racist practice, and decolonized social work will require macro approaches. Findings from a multi-year (2018-2023) multi-method survey of macro educators are reported in this paper. The presentation will also cover methodological findings and suggestions from survey respondents for rebalancing micro and macro content in social work education.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to conceptualize and apply ways to rebalance micro and macro content in their own social work programs.
  2. Upon completion of this presentation, participants will understand the methods and findings of a multi-year multi-method survey of more than 100 macro faculty on changes in macro social work education.
  3. Upon completion of this presentation, participants will leave with the experience of discussing research findings that speak to the need for macro social work to advance community-led, antiracist, and decolonized social work practice.
