Pedagogy of Care: Creating Communities of Care in the Classroom

This panel will describe how social work educators can implement a pedagogy of care in their classroom and discuss the implications of balancing this pedagogical approach with social work education objectives and accreditation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to define the 4 educational modes of Ethics of Care and how to embody and enact the modes in their pedagogy (Noddings, 2015).
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to utilize Ungrading, consensus decision making, and other flexible pedagogical approaches rooted to in care to address neurodivergence and other disabilities within the classroom (Stommel, 2023).
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to utilize a pedagogy of care to support students with classroom topics, field placement topics, and world events.
