Teaching Indigenous and Decolonizing Content From the Encyclopedia of Social Work

In 1965 NASW Press published the first Encyclopedia of Social Work, (ESW) is a compendium created to provide a comprehensive overview of knowledge within the social work profession. This presentation discusses content within the ESW about Indigenous and decolonizing perspectives that are useful for teaching and learning the explicit curriculum.

Learning Objectives:

  1. select several articles from the Encyclopedia of Social Work on Indigenous populations and decolonization perspectives and practices for use in course instruction.
  2. perform new teaching methods using articles from the Encyclopedia of Social Work on Indigenous populations and decolonization perspectives in specific courses to enhance the teaching and learning of students in culturally competence.
  3. Write an abstract for the Encyclopedia of Social Work to include new articles on Indigenous populations and decolonizing perspectives and practices to enhance the current contents of the Encyclopedia of Social Work
