Environmental injustice, such as disaster events, has a disproportionate impact on economic and racial inequalities. Social workers must be familiar with strategies for anticipating, mitigating, and responding to disasters. This presentation will emphasize the need for greater focus on environmental justice for older adults in social work education.
Learning Objectives:
summarize factors that contribute to environmental injustice.
assess the structural barriers that impact older adults' experience in being able to adequately prepare, respond to, and recover from disasters.
implement strategies and examples for infusing content on environment justice and aging throughout the BSW and MSW curricula.
