I draw on the indigenous philosophy of the Narragansetts as adapted by Addams and Hull-House residents to offer a model of inclusive hospitality. Replacing virulent hostility towards strangers with an “all are welcome” creed this feminist approach to care, home, and public housekeeping has unrealized usefulness for social work.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to formulate an answer to the question what is the feminist-pragmatist definition of inclusive hospitality inspired by Jane Addams?
Upon completion, participants will be able to summarize the historical roots of the Addams’ approach to inclusive hospitality in the Narragansett Indian Tribe’s indigenous philosophy of Wunnegin.
Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the six uses of the inclusive hospitality approach to bringing in outsiders.
