Informed by research on the relationship between high stress, intergenerational violence, and trauma, IPV interventions for men who have used violence have expanded to include knowledge of how these experiences influence IPV occurrence. We will present an overview of a group intervention including experiential activities to encourage behavioral change.
Learning Objectives:
describe the relationship between traumatogenic experiences, including high stress, intergenerational transmission of violence, and immigration, and experiences of using violence in intimate partner violence.
Describe the principles of a trauma-informed approach to an experiential learning model and the primary components of the ABC Needs model to promote behavioral change in men who have used violence in intimate relationships.
describe the main tenets of a transformative justice approach the intervening when intimate partner violence has occurred and how this group intervention model may be compatible with Indigenous values and thus translatable to Indigenous communities to prevent intimate partner violence.
