This study explores the challenges of engaging social issues in a congregational setting and lessons for social workers to consider in addressing social issues. Data is presented from a mixed-methods multi-congregational study concerning social justice issues and how they were engaged from the perspective of both clergy and laity.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to describe the challenges clergy face when engaging social justice issues in a congregational setting.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify social justice issues that clergy and laity report as the most willing and most hesitant issues they engage as faith communities.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to list ways in which social workers can engage social justice issues within congregational settings and how they might support congregational leadership with engagement.
