Session: Cultural comeptence and cultural humility in Action for social work education and practice

Gladys: A Case Study of Cultural Humility in Practice

A qualitative case study methodology is used to explore the use of cultural humility as a framework for clinical practice. Social workers providing mental health treatment for Indigenous, Afro-Caribbean, and Black diaspora communities should consider this framework. Gladys's case is used to explore the application of cultural humility in practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will gain an understanding of the tenets of cultural humility
  2. Participants will identify and explore how their own values, culture, beliefs may impact their practice.
  3. Participants will learn how to incorporate the tenets of cultural humility into their practice.
