This study introduced a workshop aimed at equipping social workers with skills to support LGBTQIA+ youth in conservative U.S. states. The workshop focuses on cultural competence, group interventions, and advocacy skills. Positive feedback suggests the workshop enhances social work education, recommending its integration and broader adoption.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to observe the heightened discrimination, mental health challenges, and legislative barriers that LGBTQIA+ youth face in conservative states. Thus recognizing the need for social workers to further develop their skills and knowledge in order to support the group more effectively.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to discuss the effectiveness of the workshop described in the present study, critique areas where improvement is needed, and propose solutions to further the effectiveness and reach of said workshop.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to reproduce the described workshop, test it in their own communities, and theorize other populations that may benefit from a more focused workshop targeted at Social Work professionals.
